Have you heard of the country of Andorra?   Back in 1993 that locale (which is just north of Spain and has fewer than a hundred thousand people) got its own seat at the United Nations. Of course, we do not assert that costly membership in that dues-collecting bureaucracy (which is heavily influenced by anti-democratic dictators) is anything of which to be particularly proud, but anyway...   Andorra is now a tax haven country with reportedly the world's 2nd highest life expectancy. Nearby, Catalonia's voters (including in Barcelona) favor secession from Spain and expressed their views accordingly in a referendum on November 9th, 2014 which Madrid predictably is not recognizing. Meanwhile Scotland already held one rather tightly contested secession referendum on September 18th, 2014, which was ultimately decided by nonworking pensioners. At least parts of Scotland might revisit the crusade fairly soon, though, as discontent with the centralized government in London festers. Elsewhere the growing quantity of separatist voters in Biafra, Quebec as well as in Bavaria (etc.) are taking notice, just as seceding folks in Sudan already have... Is Texas seceding from the U.S.A. anytime soon? There's a primary ballot initiative underway in Texas, too, so please stay tuned...

At any rate, with every human on Earth dying of old age, if you must pay taxes then doesn't it seem like it's time to similarly pursue local control of how they are spent?   Or do you want to continue having national debt-accumulating central planners (who are typically located too far away) decide for you, while such administrators enrich themselves at the expense of your wallet and opportunities?

Isn't it interesting how, according to this source, of the 46 [secession] referendums held worldwide between 1905 and 2014, 42 resulted in a new independent country being formed – with two of the remaining four “no” results later reversed"? Here are more details.
